YOGA 101:
OUR MOST BEGINNER-FRIENDLY CLASS

Available at both our Holland Village and Martin Road Studios.

Yoga 101 is our most beginner-friendly class at Freedom Yoga—designed especially for anyone who’s brand new to yoga or unsure where to begin.

If you've never stepped onto a mat or feel that regular Basics classes move too fast, this class is made for you. It’s also a welcoming space for older adults, those with limited mobility, or anyone managing stiffness, injuries, or chronic conditions.

What to expect:

  • A slower pace that gives you time to learn, feel, and adjust

  • No complex or intimidating poses

  • Step-by-step guidance on how to safely position your body

  • Gentle breathing techniques to help you feel steady and calm

You’ll learn the fundamentals of yoga from the ground up—how to breathe, how to move, and how to feel more at home in your body. No experience or flexibility required.

Come as you are. We’re here to support you every step of the way.

YOGA 101 FAQ

  • While both Yoga 101 and Basics are foundational classes, Yoga 101 is intentionally paced slower with greater emphasis on support, accessibility, and ease. Here are some key differences:

    • Slower Pace: Yoga 101 gives you time to understand, feel, and settle into each posture before moving on. There's no rush to keep up.

    • More Support: Props like blocks and walls are regularly used in balancing poses to offer extra stability and confidence.

    • Less Complexity: Transitions are simplified and sequences are designed to be gentle and straightforward.

    • More Rest Time: We allocate more time for cooldown and savasana (final rest), so you leave feeling grounded and relaxed.

    • Self-Paced Approach: Students are encouraged to rest anytime they need, without feeling like they’re falling behind.

If you’ve ever felt Basics moved a little too quickly or left you unsure about alignment or breathing, Yoga 101 may be the better starting point.

  • Yoga 101 is designed to be inclusive and accessible for a wide range of students, including:

    • Absolute beginners who have never tried yoga before

    • Older adults who may prefer a gentler pace and more support

    • Individuals with limited mobility or recovering from injury

    • Anyone feeling intimidated by faster-paced or flow-style classes

    • Students seeking confidence and clarity before joining other class types

If you’ve ever thought, “I’m not flexible enough for yoga,” this class is for you.

  • Just bring yourself and an open mind. We provide mats and props at the studio, but you're welcome to bring your own if preferred. Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely. There’s no need to prepare anything in advance—our teachers will guide you step by step.

  • Not at all! Yoga 101 is specifically designed for people of all fitness levels and body types. There’s no expectation to touch your toes or hold complex poses. We’ll teach you how to work with your body, not against it.

  • Absolutely. Many students attend Yoga 101 for several weeks or months before progressing to Basics or other class types—and some choose to stay with Yoga 101 as their regular practice. There’s no rush or pressure to “move up.” The goal is to feel confident, safe, and at home in your body.
